Love Always, Damian by D. Nichole King
(Love Always #2)
Published by: Limitless Publishing
Publication date: May 26th 2015
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Synopsis:
They say time heals all wounds.

What a load of bull. It’s been four years, and Kate’s voice still echoes in my mind.

Every. Damn. Day.
I numb her memory when it taunts me. In college, I drown her out with booze and easy lays. I can’t do what she asked.

 I can’t let her go.
Not even when Lia shows up, freaking ripping what’s left of me to shreds. Caring about someone isn’t worth the deadness that follows after they’re gone. I didn’t ask for this. Didn’t ask for her.

And I sure as hell didn’t plan to miss her when she walked out of my front door.

Now, if I want to keep her, I have to straighten myself out and earn her. I can’t screw this up.

Because if I do, I’ll lose more than just Lia.

I’ll lose my life.

She wrote her first book in junior high and loved every second of it. However, she couldn't bring herself to share her passion with anyone. She packed it away until one day, with the encouragement of her husband, she sat down at the computer and began to type. Now, she can't stop.

When not writing, d. is usually curled up with a book, scrapbooking, or doing yet another load of laundry.

Along with her incredible husband, she lives in small-town Iowa with her four adorable children and their dog, Peaches.

It’s 1998…and New York City just might not be prepared for the Girlfriends of Gotham…

When she packs up everything she owns and moves there on a whim, luck is on her side. She stumbles into a promising marketing job in the developing Internet industry and finds herself surrounded by poised and polished men who are nothing like the guys she knew back home.

One man stands out from the rest… CJ: All-American hunk and genuine good guy. But they work together, and giving in to their mutual attraction could put Natalie’s sparkly new world at risk. She resolves to look, but not to touch…if she can ignore the feeling that he’s the guy she’s been looking for her whole life.

Natalie’s new friend Candace Kanie has no such concerns. From the barroom to the boardroom, she’s used to getting exactly what she wants, and her no-crap attitude ensures nothing gets in her way. But when she meets Damon, the notorious playboy at Natalie’s company, she finds that her take-no-prisoners style might not be as effective in the romantic realm.

Frustrated and often irrational, Candace pushes for what she wants until something’s gotta give. And when it does, she realizes that the one thing she might not do better than anyone else is change.

Interview with Tess Woods

What inspired you to write Love at First Flight?

I've always been inspired by the tragic love story, the story of great love that just can't be. My favourite book The Bridges of Madison County stayed with me years after reading it and played on my mind. Then I read Twilight and out of nowhere I had to write my own book. Before this I had never entertained the idea of writing. But the longing in Twilight and the knowing that the one you love is the one that is dangerous for you resonated with me and I just had to write about that. So with the themes of desire and danger, I wrote a book about a married mother, because I wanted to write of what I know. I wanted to bring the great love story into the world of the typical suburban mum who is chasing after kids, working and running a home. I wanted her to have that Romeo and Juliet moment. So I wrote 'Love at First Flight'.

How long did Love at First Flight take to write?

The story was written start to finish in six days. For real. But it was a mashed up piece of drivel! It took eighteen months and five complete re-writes with the help of two manuscript assessors who kept suggesting changes and sending it back to me before I felt confident enough to send it to literary agents.

What is the best advice you were given for writing?

The wonderful writer Nikki Davies who assessed the manuscript in the early days, told me to imagine every scene as a scene on a stage. The curtain opens- What do you see? What should the audience feel? What are the actors saying and how do they move around? What expressions are on their faces and in their voices? Start the scene with an opening and end it with closure. Do this for every single scene in the book. Once I learnt to write in scene like this, my writing changed dramatically and it became more authentic and palpable.

More recently, when we were doing the copyedit of Love at First Flight, the brilliant author Dianne Blacklock taught me the concept of Chekhov’s gun, one of her favourite writing tips, which is now one of mine too. Chekhov himself advised, “Remove everything that has no relevance to the story. If you say in the first chapter that there is a rifle hanging on the wall, in the second or third chapter it absolutely must go off. If it's not going to be fired, it shouldn't be hanging there.” This helped cut a lot of excess junk from my writing which was clogging it up.

Which Hollywood stars would you like to see play the lead roles in the movie version of your book?

Hugh Jackman is the ultimate Adam, Orlando Bloom (with an Aussie accent)  would make a convincing Matt, Rose Byrne (with dyed black hair) has Mel written all over her. Nobody gets to make a movie though unless my daughter Lara gets to be Lily.

What do you love the most about the main character in your book?

I love that Mel is raw. She is openly vulnerable and tortured and she desperately needs attention. I want to help her dig her way out of the hole she is in and help her find inner peace and happiness.

What tricks do you have to beat writer’s block?

I write anyway, even if it’s a pile of pigeon poop, I write it. Writer’s block eventually passes, and then I have something on paper and whether I keep what I wrote or not is irrelevant. Even if I go back and delete those pigeon droppings, I know that writing those words has led me to explore new ideas anyway. I never regret writing when I don’t feel inspired. In fact I’m always happy that I did.

What is the best marketing tip you can share for a new author to get their book noticed?

Be forward even if you are shy. Take on an alter ego, the author who is passionate enough about her book that she will be brave enough to tell the world how great it is. My friend Steph Pegler gave me this little gem: ‘Nobody except maybe your mum is out there waiting for your book. You need to make people notice you.’

What is your favourite motivational phrase or quote?

Lisa Vanderpump said “Throw me to the wolves and I shall return leader of the pack.” I love that!

Which famous person living or dead would you most like to meet and why?

Hmm, I should say Nelson Mandela or the Dalai Lama, that would make me look smart and worldly wouldn’t it? Truth is, give me George Clooney. Why? I think it’s pretty obvious J.

Pick one series and tell us why – Harry Potter, Twilight or The Hunger Games.

Twilight. Not even a competition in my mind. Edward- ugh, he kills me, he is so perfect!

Congratulations to Tess! May she find much success with this novel!

For All to See EXCERPT

The tough-as-titanium woman placed her hand in his as though she were as fragile as fine China. A primal need to shield her from harm thrashed its way to life, annihilating every reserve he’d clung to over the past few days. Some things weren’t worth fighting. Fighting the need to possess Madelyn was like wrestling a hurricane. He battened down and dug in the best he could. When that didn’t work he ran like hell. But one gust knocked him flat on his ass. One wave swept away the world he’d known. And he was done fighting the one woman who could rearrange his priorities.
Hand on the grip of his gun and the other wrapped around something far more dangerous, Nathan led the way to her Jeep. They rode in silence for a while. The echoes of their argument rang in his ears. He’d pushed her, but no further than she could handle. But now her head sagged against the leather rest. “I’m—”
“Don’t you dare say you’re sorry,” she interrupted.
Still tough.
“I was going to say, I’m thinking steak for dinner.”
“I guess it’s a good thing you’re a terrible liar.”
“It’s no lie that having a whole cow spit roasted and served on a platter has crossed my mind a time or fifty in the last few days.”
“Gross.”
“Delicious.”
“You can eat whatever you want, in my house or out. I want a shower and bed.”
“Good luck getting rid of me.”
“The craving will get you sooner or later.”
“A different craving takes precedence.” Nathan caught her gaze for the first time since he’d released her hand and closed the car door.
“You’re on the job. Isn’t there a policy against that?”
“There’s a whole handbook against it. Not to mention my own policies, which have held firm all the way up until you bullied your way into my life.” He gave her a sideways grin and turned back to the road.
“Bullied?”
“Yep. You refused to leave. You refused a protection detail and a free vacation in Miami. You got me.”
“Can I renegotiate my terms? Miami sounds nice.”
“If you really want to, yes. I’ll have you on a plane tonight.” He didn’t want her to go, but he wanted her safe more.
“What was it you said? Good luck getting rid of me?” She looped her tote over her shoulder and prepared to exit the Jeep.
“How about you wait and let me go in first this time?”
“If you insist.”
“I do.” He killed the engine and waited for her to join him. “Stay behind me.”
“I thought your people were watching this place 24/7.”
“They are.”
“But you don’t trust them?”
“People make mistakes.”
“Some bigger than others,” she said wistfully.
He grabbed her hand and pulled her into the house. Shock of shocks, she didn’t jerk away. Deacon greeted him with a muzzle to the crotch.
“Should I leave you two alone?” Madelyn whispered.
Nathan poked her gently in the ribs and addressed the dog. “Buddy, we’re going to need to set up some personal boundaries. But if a bad guy shows up, that’s the perfect spot to bite. Now come on, let’s go find a bad guy.” They walked room to room, clearing the space. Deacon gave up in the living room and flounced onto his bed.
“It’s just you and me.” Madelyn’s quiet voice bounced off the tiles and smacked him in the nuts.
Yes, it was just the two of them in the bathroom with nothing but time to pass until they caught the serial killer. His hand slid from the gun and he turned. Her hand hid her sweet mouth from view.
“I didn’t mean…it’s just you and me. I meant…there’s no boogie man lying in wait.” Her cheeks flushed that unmistakable shade of pink that set off the lightly toasted tan of her skin.
“Mmm-hmm.” He took the hand from her mouth and glided his up her naked arm.
Her breath hitched. Long, dark lashes veiled her gaze, which followed the trail of his fingers. He’d happily chance a shot to the balls to kiss her, but she wasn’t ready yet. He lifted the bag from her shoulder.
“You have a nice bath.” Mounting every bit of strength he possessed, he turned and walked out the door.

I Dream of Traveling...

I have lofty dreams of backpacking through Europe, staying in a hut in South Africa, visiting the rainforest in Costa Rica, and snorkeling the waters of Bora Bora.

I don't know what it is about the ocean but I'm always attracted to the crystal blue waters of some of the beautiful oceans of the world. When I see pictures like this, I just want to dive into one.

And truthfully, I dream of staying in one of these huts over the ocean in Bora Bora. I think they filmed one of The Bachelor episodes here, but I can't remember which one.

Isn't it gorgeous?! What can I say, I'm a sucker for water. I can only imagine how relaxing it would be to sit on the little porch and hear the water lapping underneath you. Pure heaven.

Or this might be an incredibly romantic vacation...

This is Rome, a place I've always wanted to visit. I just love the old architecture and intricate building designs. So lovely.

Or maybe someplace like this...

Can you imagine staying in the treetops during a destination honeymoon to South Africa?! So incredibly romantic and beautiful. Although, I think I might be a little worried...can lions climb trees?

For now, I guess I can only dream. With several small children at home, I think my husband and I will have to wait a few more years at least until we can splurge on a trip like this. And we'll need to save some money in the meantime! :)

Hopefully, someday, I can fill all the pages in my passport. But, for now, I think I'll have to settle on researching all these strange and exotic places, and maybe, just maybe, someday I'll get to visit.

Where do you dream of visiting?

An Introduction

Hi everyone,

It's always a little difficult to start a new blog. You wonder if anyone will find it. If anyone will visit. But I guess if you're reading this, you did find it and you are visiting it. :)

So, who am I exactly?

Source

I'm a Romance writer who writes sweet and sometimes spicy romance. I'm a mother, wife, sister, daughter. I wear many hats. I like to think of myself as a fairly creative person, and when I'm not writing, you can find me dabbling in some kind of project. I love to dance, laugh, sing, play the piano, and be goofy with my family.

I'm a Walking Dead fanatic, a Downton Abbey guru, and a Castle fiend. (Can you imagine if someone wrote a novel that incorporated a little of each of those? Might be interesting...)

This blog is where I'll post experiences, talk about romance, and highlight some of my favorite books.

Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see you around here again!

Ciao for now.
